Freezer Repair in Sammamish, WA

Standalone freezers in Sammamish homes serve real needs — hunting seasons, Costco runs for families, homemade freezer meals, and the second-freezer game many Plateau households play. HotWire’s certified refrigeration techs repair every freezer type and every brand.

Freezer Problems We Fix in Sammamish

  • Chest freezer in the garage stopped cooling — compressor start relay failed, or the compressor itself seized. Compressor replacement on a 15+ year old chest freezer often doesn’t economically make sense, and we’re honest with you about that. Start relay is a common quick fix on 5–12 year old units.
  • Upright freezer not maintaining temperature — defrost heater or defrost thermostat failed, causing ice buildup on the evaporator coil that then blocks airflow. Common on 8+ year old Whirlpool, Kenmore, GE, and Frigidaire upright freezers in Sammamish basements and garages.
  • Sub-Zero or Thermador built-in freezer column not freezing — evaporator fan motor, condenser fan motor, or defrost system fault. Custom Sammamish kitchen freezer columns (Sub-Zero 700-series, Thermador Freedom, Miele MasterCool) require specialty diagnostic tools we carry.
  • Frost buildup coating everything inside — door seal compromised or door misaligned, causing warm humid Plateau air to enter and freeze. Also caused by defrost system failure. Both are standard repairs.
  • Freezer running constantly and never shutting off — usually thermostat or thermistor drift telling the compressor to run continuously. Wastes energy and shortens the compressor’s life; we diagnose and correct.
  • Loud humming or clicking from the compressor area — start relay failing, compressor mounts worn, or fan blade contacting an obstruction. Diagnostic separates the causes quickly. Chest freezers older than fifteen years may also develop cracked plastic drain plugs at the base, releasing meltwater during any manual defrost and creating a puddle we can address at the same visit.
  • Digital temperature display reading a different number than actual internal temp — thermistor sensor drifting, causing the compressor to cycle at incorrect intervals. Common on 8+ year old upright freezers from Frigidaire, Whirlpool, and Samsung. We verify with a calibrated probe thermometer and replace the specific failed sensor.

Freezer Types We Service in Sammamish

Chest freezers — from 5-cubic-foot small units to 20-cubic-foot large capacity — are the classic Sammamish garage or basement unit for families who buy in bulk. We service every brand: Frigidaire, Whirlpool, GE, Kenmore, Amana, Danby. Upright freezers with pull-out drawers or shelves offer more organized storage; common brands include Frigidaire Gallery, GE, Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, and Kenmore. Built-in freezer columns (Sub-Zero 700 series, Thermador Freedom, Miele MasterCool, Viking Professional, Monogram Statement) integrate with premium Sammamish kitchens and require manufacturer-authorized service — which we provide. Freezer drawers (Sub-Zero 700-series, Miele PerfectCool, Thermador T-series) integrate into kitchen or butler pantry cabinetry and get factory-trained service. Beverage-focused specialty freezers, ice cream freezers, and wine columns with sub-freezing capacity all get service through our specialty channels.

Typical repairs: start relay $155–$225, defrost heater $185–$285, defrost thermostat $155–$225, evaporator fan motor $225–$375, condenser fan motor $195–$325, thermostat/thermistor $185–$275, door gasket $195–$325. Sealed-system repairs (leak repair with refrigerant recharge) run $525–$1,150. Compressor replacement usually doesn't economically make sense on older units; we're honest about that.
Depends on the failure. A $175 start relay: yes, always. A $525 sealed-system leak: probably not on a 20-year-old chest freezer given modern units run more efficient and cost $500–$1,000 new. We tell you the honest economics at diagnostic — no upsell, no scare tactics.
Yes — Sub-Zero certified with manufacturer parts channel and diagnostic tool access. Freezer columns (Sub-Zero 700 series, Thermador Freedom, Miele MasterCool) are core service work for us; we do them regularly in Sammamish custom kitchens.
We run 7-day dispatch for critical calls. Weekend response for a freezer full of food gets a tech out same-day when we're able. After-hours pricing is fair — not the 2x/3x premium some competitors charge.

Freezer repair carries genuine urgency because the contents are on the clock — a stopped freezer full of a season’s worth of hunting harvest, a family’s Costco run, or a specialty ingredient stash gets expensive fast. We prioritize freezer service calls in dispatch and typically arrive same-day when contacted before mid-afternoon. If we can’t repair on the first visit, we advise on temporary storage or dry ice options to preserve contents while parts arrive.

Sealed-system repairs on freezers (refrigerant leak, compressor replacement) require EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling — every HotWire refrigeration tech carries this. Non-sealed repairs (thermostat, fan motor, defrost heater, door seal) are more common and less expensive; we quote both possibilities during diagnostic so you know what you’re facing before we start.

Every freezer repair is written flat-rate before work begins. 90-day workmanship warranty on all repairs; full manufacturer parts warranty. Same-day Sammamish dispatch for morning bookings. Emergency response for total-failure calls with significant food loss risk.

Our refrigerator stopped properly cooling. While it wasn't completely out. it just wasn't cool enough to keep things fresh. Called Hotwire on Friday. Technician came out Saturday morning. Vlad is a young fellow but very knowledgeable. He quickly diagnosed the problem which was a frozen stuck fan. After removing the freezer tray, he pulled out his magic steamer gadget and defrosted the coils. He did a thorough job cleaning up and putting everything together. Happy to have things running again ahead of Superbowl Sunday.

The team here was great. I had an issue with a dishwasher, they were quick to diagnose it and informed us of reasonable alternatives. We chose to repair it, they ordered the part and installed it. Throughout, they were communicative, helpful, and nice. The price was reasonable as well. I'd go back to them for any appliance issues in the future!

My LG fridge/freezer stopped cooling. I called Rain City around 8pm, and they were able to get a technician out before Noon the next day. After inspecting the problem the tech informed me that the compressor went out, which is a somewhat common problem on LGs. He'd be able to fix it right away if I wanted. Given the labor needed to replace the compressor, I decided to just replace the refrigerator instead.
I was pleased how he explained the issue and presented me with various options. I'd definitely recommend.
