Heat Pump Repair in Bellevue, WA

Heat pumps are the workhorse of Bellevue homes — they handle both heating and cooling, which means they run year-round and take twice the wear of a single-season system. When yours stops heating in January or won’t cool in August, HotWire gets it fixed fast. We repair all brands of heat pumps across Bellevue, from air-source units in Crossroads to geothermal systems in Lakemont. Our technicians carry refrigerant, capacitors, and common parts on every truck for same-day repairs.

Common Heat Pump Problems

  • Heat pump not heating — A stuck reversing valve, low refrigerant, or a defrost board failure prevents the system from switching to heating mode. This is the top heat pump call during Bellevue’s winter months.
  • Heat pump not cooling — Similar causes to heating failure — refrigerant leaks, compressor issues, or reversing valve problems. Also check for a dirty outdoor coil or a failed fan motor.
  • Outdoor unit iced over — Some frost during cold weather is normal, but a unit coated in ice indicates a failed defrost cycle. The defrost board, defrost thermostat, or reversing valve solenoid needs repair.
  • Heat pump blowing lukewarm air — In heating mode, heat pumps deliver air at 90-100°F — cooler than a furnace. But if the air feels barely warm, low refrigerant or a failing compressor is likely.
  • System runs constantly without reaching set temperature — During extreme cold, this can be normal. But if it happens in mild weather, the system may have a refrigerant charge issue, a dirty coil, or a sizing problem.
  • Unusual noises from the outdoor unit — Grinding, screeching, or rattling sounds point to fan motor bearings, a failing compressor, or debris caught in the unit.

Trane Heat Pump Repair in Bellevue

Trane heat pumps are common in Bellevue homes and known for their reliability. We repair XR, XL, and XV series units including compressor diagnostics, defrost board replacements, reversing valve service, and refrigerant charge adjustments. Our technicians understand Trane’s communicating system protocol for accurate troubleshooting.

Lennox Heat Pump Repair in Bellevue

Lennox XP and EL series heat pumps serve many Bellevue homes. We handle compressor failures, defrost cycle issues, variable-speed blower problems, and control board repairs. Lennox heat pumps can develop coil leaks — we test for leaks, repair or replace the coil, and recharge the system to factory specifications.

Carrier Heat Pump Repair in Bellevue

Carrier Infinity and Performance heat pumps are popular in Bellevue’s newer neighborhoods. We service reversing valve solenoids, defrost timers, compressor contactors, and thermostat communication issues. Our techs read Carrier’s diagnostic codes for fast, accurate troubleshooting.

Rheem Heat Pump Repair in Bellevue

Rheem heat pumps offer good value and are common in Bellevue’s mid-range homes. We repair compressor failures, low refrigerant conditions, fan motor issues, and control board errors. Rheem systems are straightforward to service, and we carry common replacement parts.

Heat Pump Maintenance in Bellevue

Because heat pumps run year-round in Bellevue, they need twice-yearly maintenance — once in spring for the cooling season and once in fall for heating. Our maintenance includes coil cleaning, refrigerant level check, electrical connection tightening, defrost system testing, and thermostat calibration.

Heat pump repairs in Bellevue range from $150 to $700. Capacitor and contactor replacements are on the lower end. Reversing valve repairs, defrost board replacements, and refrigerant recharges cost more. Compressor replacement is the most expensive repair. We provide flat-rate quotes before starting.
The most common causes are a stuck reversing valve (the system is stuck in cooling mode), low refrigerant from a leak, or a failed defrost cycle leaving the outdoor coil iced over. If auxiliary heat isn't engaging as backup, the system can't keep up. Our Bellevue technicians diagnose the specific cause during the service call.
We recommend twice-yearly maintenance for heat pumps in Bellevue — once in spring and once in fall. Because heat pumps run year-round for both heating and cooling, they accumulate more wear than single-function systems. Regular maintenance catches problems early and keeps efficiency high.
A well-maintained heat pump typically lasts 12-15 years in Bellevue's climate. Because they run year-round, they have a shorter lifespan than a furnace that only runs during winter. Regular maintenance is the single best thing you can do to extend your heat pump's life.

Our refrigerator stopped properly cooling. While it wasn't completely out. it just wasn't cool enough to keep things fresh. Called Hotwire on Friday. Technician came out Saturday morning. Vlad is a young fellow but very knowledgeable. He quickly diagnosed the problem which was a frozen stuck fan. After removing the freezer tray, he pulled out his magic steamer gadget and defrosted the coils. He did a thorough job cleaning up and putting everything together. Happy to have things running again ahead of Superbowl Sunday.

The team here was great. I had an issue with a dishwasher, they were quick to diagnose it and informed us of reasonable alternatives. We chose to repair it, they ordered the part and installed it. Throughout, they were communicative, helpful, and nice. The price was reasonable as well. I'd go back to them for any appliance issues in the future!

My LG fridge/freezer stopped cooling. I called Rain City around 8pm, and they were able to get a technician out before Noon the next day. After inspecting the problem the tech informed me that the compressor went out, which is a somewhat common problem on LGs. He'd be able to fix it right away if I wanted. Given the labor needed to replace the compressor, I decided to just replace the refrigerator instead.
I was pleased how he explained the issue and presented me with various options. I'd definitely recommend.
