AC Installation in Redmond WA

Planning an AC install in Redmond? We size, quote, and install both central and ductless systems for our specific climate. Free on-site estimates.

Signs It’s Time for a New AC Install in Redmond

  • No cooling system at all in a home built before central air was standard — common in Redmond homes built through the 1990s that were never fitted with AC from day one
  • Window units that can’t keep up with a second-story bedroom — particularly in Redmond’s daylight-basement homes where the upstairs runs 10-15° warmer
  • An existing system too old and inefficient to repair economically — generally a system 15+ years old with a failing compressor or leaking evaporator coil
  • New addition or finished basement with no cooling coverage — existing ductwork often can’t extend to serve a new zone without significant modification
  • Planning a remodel and want ductwork designed in from the start — the right time to integrate proper cooling — retrofitting later costs significantly more
  • Converting from electric baseboard heat and want heating and cooling combined — a natural fit for a heat pump that qualifies for Redmond’s Energy Smart Eastside rebates
  • Home office setup generating enough heat that one room never cools — a common Redmond issue with the shift toward remote work — a single ductless head often solves it
  • Considering a heat pump instead of AC-only for year-round use — worth comparing given rebate availability and Redmond’s mild winters that suit heat pumps well
Not usually. If you already have a forced-air gas furnace, we can typically add an AC coil and outdoor condenser onto the existing ductwork without major construction. Older homes in Education Hill and Grass Lawn are prime candidates for this upgrade path. We confirm duct integrity and airflow capacity during the first visit. For older Redmond homes on undersized electrical service, we coordinate with a licensed electrician early in the process so panel upgrades don't hold up the install.
It depends on whether you have existing ductwork, how many zones you need, and which brand and efficiency tier you choose. Ductless single-zone installs are generally the most affordable option for Redmond homes without ducting. We give you an exact number on-site after the walkthrough, not a range or phone estimate. The on-site quote is free and there's no obligation — we'd rather spend an hour giving you accurate numbers than have you decide based on phone estimates that don't hold up.
For most Redmond homeowners, yes — a heat pump gives you cooling and efficient heating in one system, and it's the equipment that qualifies for Energy Smart Eastside rebates. We'll walk you through both options during the quote and show you the actual cost delta after rebates apply. The rebate paperwork and utility submissions are included in the install price rather than billed as an add-on — we handle it as part of getting the job done right.
A single-zone ductless install is usually done in one day. Central AC added to existing ductwork typically takes one to two days depending on the home. Multi-zone ductless with several indoor heads can run one to three days depending on how many rooms are involved. Multi-zone ductless installs sometimes take longer if we're routing line sets through attic space or between floors, and we'll flag that in the quote.

AC Installation Options for Redmond Homes

Central Air Conditioning — added onto existing forced-air furnace ductwork, the most common upgrade path for Education Hill and Grass Lawn homes with a gas furnace already in place.

Ductless Mini Split Systems — zone-by-zone cooling for Redmond townhomes and additions with no ducting, letting you cool just the home office or primary bedroom without conditioning the whole house.

Multi-Zone Ductless — one outdoor condenser running several indoor heads, popular in Redmond’s larger daylight-basement homes near Lake Sammamish.

Every AC installation in Redmond starts with an on-site walkthrough, not a phone estimate. Our estimator measures the space, checks insulation levels, notes window orientation, and inspects your existing ductwork before recommending a system size. That’s how we avoid the two most common installation mistakes — oversized units that short-cycle and undersized units that run constantly without ever catching up.

Once you approve the quote, our licensed and bonded install crew handles everything: pulling the Redmond city permit, coordinating the electrical work, running refrigerant lines, and scheduling the inspection. Most single-zone ductless installs finish in a day; central AC additions onto existing ductwork typically take one to two days.

If your project qualifies for Energy Smart Eastside or Puget Sound Energy rebates, we prepare and submit the paperwork for you. All installation labor is covered by a workmanship warranty, and the equipment carries its manufacturer warranty for years beyond that — we’ll walk you through both at the quote stage so there are no surprises.

Every Redmond AC installation comes with post-install commissioning — verified refrigerant charge, static pressure readings, temperature split measurements, and airflow balance across registers. This step is what separates a system that operates at rated efficiency from one that quietly underperforms for years. We document the commissioning numbers and leave a copy with you for warranty and future service reference.

One detail worth mentioning about Redmond specifically: neighborhood build-out year matters a lot for AC installation planning. Homes in Education Hill and Grass Lawn from the 1970s-80s often have adequate ductwork for a central AC add-on with minimal modification. Newer downtown condos and townhomes usually don’t have ductwork at all, making ductless the only practical path. And the transitional 1990s-2000s stock in Bear Creek and Willows-Rose Hill falls somewhere in between — we assess each home individually rather than applying a template.

Our refrigerator stopped properly cooling. While it wasn't completely out. it just wasn't cool enough to keep things fresh. Called Hotwire on Friday. Technician came out Saturday morning. Vlad is a young fellow but very knowledgeable. He quickly diagnosed the problem which was a frozen stuck fan. After removing the freezer tray, he pulled out his magic steamer gadget and defrosted the coils. He did a thorough job cleaning up and putting everything together. Happy to have things running again ahead of Superbowl Sunday.

The team here was great. I had an issue with a dishwasher, they were quick to diagnose it and informed us of reasonable alternatives. We chose to repair it, they ordered the part and installed it. Throughout, they were communicative, helpful, and nice. The price was reasonable as well. I'd go back to them for any appliance issues in the future!

My LG fridge/freezer stopped cooling. I called Rain City around 8pm, and they were able to get a technician out before Noon the next day. After inspecting the problem the tech informed me that the compressor went out, which is a somewhat common problem on LGs. He'd be able to fix it right away if I wanted. Given the labor needed to replace the compressor, I decided to just replace the refrigerator instead.
I was pleased how he explained the issue and presented me with various options. I'd definitely recommend.
