Heat Pump Repair in Redmond WA

Heat pump acting up in Redmond? We diagnose and repair ducted and ductless systems the same day — including Energy Smart Eastside installs.

Heat Pump Problems We Fix in Redmond

  • Heat pump running constantly without reaching the set temperature — usually a slow refrigerant leak, undersized system, or dirty coils restricting heat transfer
  • Blowing cold air when it should be heating — commonly a reversing valve stuck in cooling mode or a defrost sensor giving a false reading
  • Outdoor unit covered in ice and not defrosting properly — a failed defrost board or sensor — normal defrost cycles should clear ice within minutes
  • Strange clicking, buzzing, or grinding noise from the outdoor unit — often a failing contactor, a fan bearing worn out, or a compressor about to fail
  • System short-cycling on and off repeatedly — typically a bad low-pressure switch, thermostat placement issue, or refrigerant charge problem
  • No response at all from the thermostat or remote — could be a control board failure, wiring fault, or on ductless units, a bad receiver in the indoor head
  • Reduced airflow from one or more indoor heads — on ductless systems, usually a clogged filter or a failing blower motor in that specific head
  • Refrigerant leak causing weak heating or cooling — we locate and repair the leak with electronic detection rather than just topping off the charge
  • Error code displayed on a ductless indoor unit — we read Mitsubishi, Daikin, and Fujitsu error codes on-site to diagnose the specific fault
This usually points to a refrigerant leak, a failing compressor, or a heat pump that was undersized for the home when installed. We check refrigerant levels and system pressures first — that's where most Redmond service calls trace back to. A slow leak developing over months is the single most common cause we see. Refrigerant leak repair on a heat pump is more involved than a top-off — we locate the leak, repair it properly, then evacuate and recharge to spec rather than just adding refrigerant.
Yes. We repair heat pumps regardless of who installed them or which rebate program was used, and we're familiar with the Mitsubishi models most commonly installed under the Redmond ESE program. Our EPA-certified techs handle refrigerant work in-house. For ESE-installed systems that are still under manufacturer warranty, we handle warranty claim paperwork on your behalf where covered components are involved.
Yes, during a defrost cycle in cold, damp weather this is normal and should only last a few minutes at a time. The system reverses briefly to melt frost off the outdoor coil. Continuous cold air is a different issue and needs diagnosis — usually a refrigerant or reversing valve problem. Defrost cycle diagnostics require patience — sometimes we run the system through a full cycle in real time rather than relying on error codes alone.
90 days parts and labor. Same issue within that window, we return at no cost. This covers every brand we service and every repair type, from a simple sensor replacement to a compressor changeout. For older heat pumps beyond warranty, we'll honestly discuss repair-versus-replace math rather than defaulting to whichever option costs you more.

Heat Pump Systems We Repair in Redmond

Ducted Heat Pumps — central systems tied into existing furnace ductwork, common in Redmond’s Education Hill and Bear Creek single-family homes.

Ductless Mini Split Heat Pumps — the most common Energy Smart Eastside conversion in Redmond, especially in homes and townhomes without ducting.

Multi-Zone Systems — one outdoor condenser powering several indoor heads, frequent in Redmond’s larger daylight-basement homes.

Heat pump diagnostics require a specific skill set that not every HVAC company has in-house — refrigerant handling under EPA Section 608, brand-specific error code reading, reversing valve testing, and inverter compressor troubleshooting. Our Redmond techs carry the certifications and the diagnostic tools that let us find the actual fault rather than swapping parts on guesswork.

We repair heat pumps regardless of who did the original install, which matters in Redmond because so many systems were put in during Energy Smart Eastside rebate rush periods by installers who’ve since moved on. Whether the paperwork is still valid or not, we can service the equipment and honor manufacturer warranty procedures where they apply.

Every heat pump repair in Redmond comes with a 90-day parts and labor warranty, and our vans stock Mitsubishi parts particularly deep since that’s the dominant brand across the city’s ESE conversions. Refrigerant recharge, control board swap, sensor replacement, and defrost cycle tuning are all standard first-visit fixes for us.

For Redmond heat pumps installed under Energy Smart Eastside, the systems are almost always Mitsubishi cold-climate units with inverter compressors. That’s a different diagnostic approach than older on/off compressors — inverter faults show up as specific error codes rather than obvious symptoms. Our techs are trained on this equipment class specifically, which is why our first-visit fix rate on ESE-installed systems runs high.

Our refrigerator stopped properly cooling. While it wasn't completely out. it just wasn't cool enough to keep things fresh. Called Hotwire on Friday. Technician came out Saturday morning. Vlad is a young fellow but very knowledgeable. He quickly diagnosed the problem which was a frozen stuck fan. After removing the freezer tray, he pulled out his magic steamer gadget and defrosted the coils. He did a thorough job cleaning up and putting everything together. Happy to have things running again ahead of Superbowl Sunday.

The team here was great. I had an issue with a dishwasher, they were quick to diagnose it and informed us of reasonable alternatives. We chose to repair it, they ordered the part and installed it. Throughout, they were communicative, helpful, and nice. The price was reasonable as well. I'd go back to them for any appliance issues in the future!

My LG fridge/freezer stopped cooling. I called Rain City around 8pm, and they were able to get a technician out before Noon the next day. After inspecting the problem the tech informed me that the compressor went out, which is a somewhat common problem on LGs. He'd be able to fix it right away if I wanted. Given the labor needed to replace the compressor, I decided to just replace the refrigerator instead.
I was pleased how he explained the issue and presented me with various options. I'd definitely recommend.
