Furnace Repair in Kirkland, WA

A furnace that refuses to fire on the first cold night of the season is the most predictable HVAC emergency in Kirkland. The system sits idle for five months through summer, collects moisture and dust in Kirkland’s damp air, and then has to light up and run reliably for the next seven months straight. We repair gas and electric furnaces across Kirkland with same-day scheduling and 24/7 emergency dispatch for no-heat situations.

Common Furnace Problems in Kirkland

Furnace not lighting — the most common call. A failed hot surface igniter, a dirty flame sensor, or a stuck gas valve. Igniters are consumable components that crack after three to five years. Flame sensors corrode faster in Kirkland’s humid air — many furnaces need flame sensor cleaning or replacement every two to three years here.

Furnace starts then shuts off after a few seconds — a dirty flame sensor that cannot confirm the burner lit, a cracked igniter that fires intermittently, or a pressure switch that reads incorrect draft pressure. The furnace safety system shuts everything down when it cannot verify safe operation.

No heat but blower running — the gas valve is not opening, the ignition sequence did not complete, or the control board locked out after multiple failed ignition attempts. Many modern furnaces require a manual reset after three or four failed attempts. We diagnose the root cause, fix it, and reset the board.

Loud bang when furnace starts — delayed ignition. Gas accumulates in the combustion chamber before the igniter fires, then ignites all at once. Causes include dirty burners, a weak igniter, or low gas pressure. Delayed ignition is more than an annoyance — it stresses the heat exchanger and can crack it over time.

Furnace short-cycling — turning on and off every few minutes. A dirty filter restricting airflow and causing the heat exchanger to overheat, a failing blower motor that cannot move enough air, or a malfunctioning limit switch. Short-cycling wastes gas and accelerates wear on the ignition system.

Carbon monoxide alarm going off when furnace runs — a cracked heat exchanger, a blocked flue, or improper combustion from dirty burners. This is an immediate safety concern. Shut the furnace off, ventilate the house, and call for emergency service.

Lennox Furnace Repair

Lennox furnaces are among the most common brands we service in Kirkland — the SLP, EL, and ML series especially. Lennox uses proprietary control boards and iComfort communicating technology that require Lennox-specific diagnostic tools. Common Lennox furnace repairs include igniter replacement, inducer motor service, pressure switch diagnostics, and control board replacement. Lennox furnace flame sensors are notorious for corrosion in humid climates — in Kirkland, we recommend annual flame sensor service on all Lennox units.

Trane Furnace Repair

Trane furnaces — the S-Series, XR, and XV lines — run in a significant number of Kirkland homes. Trane furnaces are built well but develop specific issues over time: inducer motor bearing wear, pressure switch failures from condensate in the inducer housing, and variable-speed blower motor communication errors on the XV series. We carry Trane-compatible components and handle most repairs same-day. Trane’s diagnostic LED codes on the control board help us pinpoint the failure quickly.

Goodman Furnace Repair

Goodman furnaces are the most common builder-grade furnace in Kirkland — affordable upfront but they keep us busy with repairs after the warranty period. Frequent Goodman repairs include igniter failure (the silicon nitride igniters in Goodman units have a shorter lifespan than some competitors), gas valve issues, and blower motor capacitor failures. Goodman parts are widely available and competitively priced, which keeps repair costs reasonable.

Carrier and Bryant Furnace Repair

Carrier and Bryant furnaces share the same manufacturing platform, so parts and repair procedures overlap. The Infinity/Evolution series use communicating controls, while the Performance and Comfort series use standard thermostats. Common repairs across both brands include inducer motor replacement, igniter service, and control board diagnostics. We service all Carrier and Bryant models including the two-stage and variable-speed configurations.

Rheem, York, and Coleman Furnace Repair

Rheem, York, and Coleman round out the most common furnace brands in Kirkland. Rheem furnaces develop flame sensor issues frequently in Kirkland’s climate. York furnaces are durable but the older models use proprietary pressure switches that require exact replacements. Coleman furnaces share many components with York (same manufacturer) and develop similar failure patterns. We carry parts for all three brands.

Most furnace repairs in Kirkland cost $150 to $600. Igniter and flame sensor replacements are $150 to $250. Inducer motor and blower motor swaps run $350 to $600. Control board replacements cost $250 to $500. Heat exchanger replacement is $1,500 to $3,000 — at that point, furnace replacement often makes more sense depending on the system's age.
Three common causes: a dirty flame sensor that cannot confirm the burner lit (the most frequent reason in Kirkland), a clogged filter that causes the heat exchanger to overheat and trip the limit switch, or a pressure switch error from a partially blocked exhaust vent. All are same-day fixes. If the furnace locks out after three failed ignition attempts, it needs a manual reset after the repair.
Gas furnaces in Kirkland typically last 15 to 20 years. Kirkland's humidity shortens component life by two to three years compared to drier climates — especially for igniters, flame sensors, and inducer motors. A furnace past 15 years that needs a major repair (heat exchanger, control board) is usually better replaced than repaired.
Yes — a cracked heat exchanger can leak carbon monoxide into your home's air supply. CO is odorless and can be fatal. If your carbon monoxide detector goes off while the furnace is running, shut the furnace off, open windows, and call for emergency service. We inspect heat exchangers with a camera on every furnace repair where we suspect a crack.

Our refrigerator stopped properly cooling. While it wasn't completely out. it just wasn't cool enough to keep things fresh. Called Hotwire on Friday. Technician came out Saturday morning. Vlad is a young fellow but very knowledgeable. He quickly diagnosed the problem which was a frozen stuck fan. After removing the freezer tray, he pulled out his magic steamer gadget and defrosted the coils. He did a thorough job cleaning up and putting everything together. Happy to have things running again ahead of Superbowl Sunday.

The team here was great. I had an issue with a dishwasher, they were quick to diagnose it and informed us of reasonable alternatives. We chose to repair it, they ordered the part and installed it. Throughout, they were communicative, helpful, and nice. The price was reasonable as well. I'd go back to them for any appliance issues in the future!

My LG fridge/freezer stopped cooling. I called Rain City around 8pm, and they were able to get a technician out before Noon the next day. After inspecting the problem the tech informed me that the compressor went out, which is a somewhat common problem on LGs. He'd be able to fix it right away if I wanted. Given the labor needed to replace the compressor, I decided to just replace the refrigerator instead.
I was pleased how he explained the issue and presented me with various options. I'd definitely recommend.
